Trenton's "cheap" entertainment!

Fun at Discovery Gateway

A mom of one of Kace's friends at preschool asked if we would like to go with her to Discovery Gateway in Salt Lake. So off we went. When we got down there we met up with my sister Kami and went to lunch then off to discovery! I was surprised to see that it was flipping $10 a person, EVEN Ty was $10 to get in. Somebody is making some serious money. I am glad that I only had two kids to get in, as well as myself of course (I am cheap like that!) Naturally, if you live in or around Salt Lake you get a whole $1 off (sense the sarcasm!)

The kids had a great time of course. There was a ton to do. You name it they had it, it was kindof like the Treehouse Museum, in that they both had lots of things to do and you never could get bored (well parents could get bored, but kids definitely not!)

Here is Ty stuffing his face! We weren't supposed to have treats in the museum, but with Ty that is just not an option. So here he is stuffing it in!

I first met Becka Cook....now Oberg while working at ICON during college. We quickly became good friends and miraculously (or fate) we ended up marrying cousins! So now I get to see her at some (they have been living far away lately!) family things as well.
Anywa, Becka and her kids are up visiting from Vegas while Bennett is in Peru so we decided to get together with her sister-in-law Kallee and our kids and go to Ogden to the Treehouse Museum. I hadn't ever been there and was VERY impressed. They have so much to do there. The kids were in heaven and could run around to their hearts content. They had a fireman display where you could dress up and pretend you were a fireman. They also had a President of the US display with a desk to sit at and be President! There was a school, grocery store, garden, TP (Indian TP!) Anyway you get the drift there was lots and lots and lots to do.

Kace "caught" Ashden the fish with his fishing net. They loved looking at the fish in the aquarium. They kind of look alike don't you think?! Shaws must have very dominant genes!
Ty loved loved loved going through this tunnel and going over this bridge they had. We did that over and over and over and over. Actually, just Ty did, I just stood there and watched him!

We had a great time and it was great to see Becka and Kallee!

SOCCER

Yesterday was our first day of soccer. Going to this soccer game made a lot of memories come back to me. I loved playing soccer when I was a kid. I started when I was in first grade. These are the things I remember:

1- We won our first three games 8-0 and then won the rest of our games that season. We were obviously very good :) Many undefeated trophies were won, while playing in Trenton.

2- Janet Cottle was our coach and she was very organized. We had a color coded position chart. I mostly liked playing forward.

3- We were bribed that at the end of the season we would get a candy bar for every goal we scored. I don't remember what I got, but I do remember I wished I was Kelly Buttars because she got 15.

4-We hardly ever lost in 5 years playing Trenton soccer (I then went to competitive in Lewiston and Richmond for a couple of years, but it wasn't nearly as fun)

Yea we were kind of dorky! But at least we had fun!

6-We had practice off the bus, which we loved.

7- I reffed for one season-note to self: never NEVER never ref against a team your dad is coaching.

Back to Kace's soccer......Kace was so excited, he has actually been so excited ever since we signed up. He did great. I was surprised how much bigger he was then everyone else, but I guess he is just about the oldest for his grade. He scored his teams only goal. They have a couple of what we like to call "dandelion pickers" They make me so frustrated because they don't really care to do ANYTHING! In this league for preschoolers they don't keep score, but the kids sure know the score and we LOST. I was kind of mad. I really wanted to win. I tried not to show that to Kace though, because he didn't seem to care as much as I did. He did a great job. He told me after the game that he was really good at stealing the ball. Which he was, whether it be from the other team OR his own teammates!


I did hear one set of parents say, "Well, looks like it is going to be a one-man show." Talking about Kace, but HELLO parents, your kid can go get the ball too! He was obviously one of the "dandelion pickers" previously mentioned.

Kace IS one of a kind!

I videoed Kace doing this song, which his dad taught him. Each evening when we get ready to say the prayer on the food we would ask Kace why we pray and this is the song he sings (of course it USED to be the song that Nate would sing, but Kace just adopted it as his own and made some modifications!).............
I guess it is some MC Hammer song, I didn't even know he sang other songs besides, "Can't Touch This" Anyway, Kace sang this at my dad's birthday dinner and I am posting it at Heidi's request!



I don't know another five-year-old that won't sleep in his covers because he doesn't want to make his bed. I thought that would happen when he was like 12. I was having him make his bed each day and he decided (on his own), after about a month that he no longer wanted to sleep in his covers and just wanted blankets on top!

Seriously, Kace is a great kid with a ton of personality. He is the BEST big brother to Ty and cares so much for him. He has a such a thirst for knowledge and loves to read. Four or five months ago I walked by his room and just listened to him sound out words, now he is reading like a pro and isn't even in kindergarten yet. He is so excited to start soccer, likes to go outside and play bat and ball and loves to tell everyone how he can make 21 baskets in a row. He loves to go fishing with his dad and to go camping. We love our Kace he is definitely one of the biggest blessings in our lives! Sorry for the cheesiness, but mom's are allowed to do that once in a while!
